The Australian Model Car Club began in April 1972, mainly through the efforts of collector Vic Wills. It was mostly made up of members who collected die-cast models, but soon also attracted model kit builders. It is now fairly evenly balanced between the two. Of the twelve founding members, four are still active within the club and continue to contribute their support to an enthusiastic membership.

Club meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, 8 pm at the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia Victorian Headquarters, 43 Dalgety Street, Oakleigh, Victoria (Melways map 69 F5).
A monthly newsletter is mailed to all members. Club meetings are informal and friendly, and each month features a different display theme. Members try to match this theme as closely as possible with their display of models. An end of the year model competition is also held in-house for members who build model cars from kits or scratch. The club participates in other interclub events including the annual IPMS Model Expo. The club also hosts the annual VIC WILLS CONCOURS d'ELEGANCE teams competition for model cars (now in its 22nd. year). A Swap Meet and an Open Competition for all types of scale models is also run on the day.
